Personal Profile

Dr Bhadu Kavar is an experienced and well regarded neurosurgeon with expertise is both cranial and spinal neurosurgery. His speciality interest includes cerebrovascular, neuro-oncology and minimally invasive complex spinal surgery. 

Dr Kavar obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Natal. He went on to train in neurosurgery in South Africa obtaining a Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa FRS(SA) in 1992 before moving to Australia. He was awarded a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1997.

Dr Kavar has been operating at Melbourne Private and The Royal Melbourne Hospital for over 25 years where he has built a reputation for not only his technical skills but also his excellent patient care and outcomes. He is in charge of the RMH complex spine fellowship program and is a mentor to many aspiring neurosurgeons..

Dr Bhadu Kavar has contributed to the neurosurgery scientific literature throughout his career. Publishing a variety of rare and interesting surgical cases. He previously held an honorary position with the University of Melbourne. Most recently he was one of the neurosurgeons involved in the Evacuate Trial, published in 2023. Dr Kavar has also written a number of book chapters including chapters on trigeminal neuralgia, leg pain and brain tumours.

Dr Kavar is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australia, Spine Society of Australia and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).
